It’s easy to participate from Gecko Rock Resort with tours departing from Zicatela Beach in Puerto Escondido. FMK Mexico offers voyages up the coast or into the mountains for day trippers, as well as interesting two/three day overnight trips for those wishing to delve deeper into the Sierra Madre.
It’s even possible to book your entire vacation on two wheels with their awesome selection of ten day road trips or a personalized trip catered to your specifications.
From France to Mexico.
FMK Mexico’s owners, Marcel and Fabienne, brought a plethora of old world motorcycle experience with them to Mexico when they moved here over a decade ago from Europe. Marcel has been the director of a Ducati dealership in the south of France since 2002 and is also the president of a motorcycle club.
Today they love to share their passion for bikes, diving and Mexican culture with visitors to Puerto Escondido. Marcel says that it’s important that his trips be different and out of the ordinary.
Time to hit the open road.
Visitors opting for a one day tour can either choose to cruise along the coastline while discovering quiet beaches, bird packed lagoons and endless sunshine or head up into the hills for an adventure filled with unique tropical foliage, mountain villages, coffee plantations and waterfalls.
Heading north out of Puerto Escondido takes you past the incredibly beautiful Manialtepec and Chacahua lagoons on a less populated road, whereas taking the southern route allows riders to stop in beach towns like Mazunte, San Agustinillo, and Puerto Angel before rolling into the larger resort town of Huatulco to see her nine gorgeous bays.
Heading inland, the mountain route will take you to the quaint town of Nopala and nearby Lachao where you’ve got the option of zooming down a mountain zip line.
Overnight and weekend options.
The San Jose del Pacifico tour winds up through the hills just before Pochutla and ends in the center of a cloud forest. In San Jose del Pacifico you’ll spend the night at a quiet chalet complete with fireplace. After exploring neighboring villages the tour returns back down the mountains and along the beach back to Puerto Escondido.
History buffs will love the three day option that takes riders up through Juquila, the home of the best Oaxacan cuisine, and on to Oaxaca de Juarez. After staying at a hotel in Oaxaca the expedition continues down the valley to visit archaeological sites such as Monte Alban and Mitla stopping in at the incredible Hierve el Agua “frozen” waterfall.
Daily bike rental runs 1,800 pesos (about US$145) per day and longer tours vary in price depending on length and number of nights in a hotel.
Please bear in mind that FMK Mexico bike tours are designed for fully experienced riders only. The bikes (MULTISTRADA 1200, MONSTER 696, GS650) are extremely powerful and not suitable for beginner or intermediate riders.
